Contrary most experiences(incl. my 15 years of riding the Lake Shore Ltd.) Trains are not ALWAYS late, Just mostly. Relax & enjoy the ride. Watch for the good sights like the Kodak Building and river .

Bring your own food and beverages. You can bring it on the train ! Plus, if your train is delayed (likely), the food option at the station is a row of vending machines. You'll want that snack .

Love to ride the train . Amtrak always has deals to NY. For all you folks that complain about trains I have been stuck at airports too many times. Sick of flying. Amtrak does not charge for bags.

Rochester cops and trained dogs to sniff your bags without permission. I don't know how safe I feel. In fact, I felt rather violated.

Lakeshore Ltd stop at night westbound. Plan for very cold stop in the winter.

For foreigners, you are required to bring passport with you, even if you have a driver's license to prove who you are. There are people in green uniform checking out passport here.

The trains are always late so don't worry about getting there early. No TSA BS means 5 minute check-in.

Be ready for Border Patrol. And please people, do not get up and walk around when people are trying to de-train or come on.

Very dirty inside and out..Don't plan on using the restrooms unless you plan on catching something from it..and the graffiti .. just very dingy and grimy..Very disappointing Amtrack!

Staff don't hold a candle to flight attendants! The crew is amazing!
