Samuel Johnson , the writer and wit, lived and worked here in the middle of the 18th century, compiling his great ‘Dictionary of the English Language’ in the Garret. He is buried in Westminster Abbey.
18 September: Visit Samuel Johnson 's house on his birthday. Today the house is open to the public, and offers a fascinating insight into the life of the great wig-wearing depressive.
Wonderful place to know more about Dr Johnson. The staff there are all volunteers and the entrance Fees are used to manage the place.
Looking out from the windows on the top floor is a surreal experience. Worth the visit

Although the museum takes up all four floors of the house in which Johnson wrote his 'Dictionary ', it’s the atmosphere that intrigues here. Read more

Little is known about 'Hodge' Johnson's cat. What is known is Johnson's fondness for his cat, which separated Johnson from the views held by others of the eighteenth century. - Jacques
